Why should you consider becoming a foster/adoptive parent?

One of our highest callings is to help those in need, especially those unable to help themselves.

You have the power to change a child’s world for the better, and offer love and support that will stay with them their entire lives. When you become a foster/adoptive parent you can stop the abuse. You can give mothers and fathers time to work things out. You can help brothers and sisters stay together. In many cases, you will have the chance to mentor not only a child, but their family as well.

There is a significant need for families to make a permanent commitment to older children in foster care.

National studies have shown that when children without a permanent placement reach eighteen and leave foster care, within 12-18 months:

40% will not have completed high school;
50% will be unemployed;
33% will be on public assistance.

foster factStudies show that 40% of these young people will experience homelessness at least once before reaching the age of 22. They are at extreme risk of poverty, victimization, and criminal involvement, illness, early childbearing, and low educational attainment. They are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population and twice as likely as the general population to be incarcerated.

Foster/adoptive families often find that their own children benefit from living with children in foster care by learning patience, compassion, and how to share with others. You may discover those traits in yourself more than you thought possible.

In the end, why should be you consider becoming a foster/adoptive parent?
Because you can.

You won't have to do it alone.
