“It felt better when I found out that I might be able to be adopted and not have to move anymore. I started to feel more confident that people cared for me. I didn’t have to hide in my books anymore. We lived with my foster family for about 11 months, then it happened; our foster family adopted us… I still love my other family and love my new family.” —Twelve-year-old boy adopted from foster care

Training

Training paves the way for success. The Utah Foster Care Foundation educates families before they are licensed (pre-service) and after they are licensed (in-service).

The foster and adoptive family pre-service curriculum is taught in eight, 4 hour sessions for a total of 32 hours. As families are better prepared to care for emotionally and behaviorally challenged children, the
out-of-home substantiated allegations of abuse in Utah have dropped below the national average.

The Utah Foster Care Foundation is also responsible for providing in-service training in each region. In order to assist families in acquiring hours for re-licensure, each trainer
offers two or more training classes each month.
Training schedules are provided in the Foster
Roster newsletter. All trainers are certified professionals.
