"I see that foster care has helped me so much, they taught me many helpful skills I didn't know or have before. I don't know where I would be without the people who have been devoted to helping me in life. -Sixteen-year-old boy in foster care.

Annual Christmas Stores

Mission Statement: The Christmas Store provides an opportunity for children in foster care to select free holiday gifts for their loved ones, and also provides other necessities at no cost for their caretaking
family.

The Christmas Store was begun in 1999 by Lisa Canapé, a former Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) caseworker. She wanted to provide children in the state’s custody an opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts for their families and friends. For the last few years, the Christmas Box House International, the Utah Foster Care Foundation, and the Salt Lake County Children’s Shelter along with many other community partners have united to extend this wonderful concept to children in foster care.

The Need: We are looking for volunteers to give at least a four-hour commitment during one week in December. We need volunteers to help set up the point system, sort donations, help our shoppers get the items they need, provide activities for children, and clean up when the store is closed. We are also interested in donations, such as new items especially targeted for teens, moms, and dads.
