Foster/Adoptive Families Need Our Support

retreatAt any given time, there are nearly 2600 children in Utah’s foster care system.  These children may have significant special needs due to the neglect and abuse that they have suffered. Factors such as poverty, homelessness, alcohol and drug abuse contribute to the incidence of neglect in many families.

Given the special needs of children in foster care today, the 1300 resource families that care for them need additional support, services and resources.  UFCF partners with the Division of Child and Family Services, community individuals, and businesses to provide services and events that recognize, honor and help retain these valuable families.  These include regional activities held during the holiday season such as the Giving Tree Program, resource family appreciation picnics which occur in the spring or summer, a monthly newsletter, Cluster Support Groups, the Wishing Well fund, and Partners in Parenting program.

It is in Utah’s best interest to retain these resource families who are caring for children in foster care, rather than replacing them with inexperienced families.

“Association with other foster parents makes fostering much easier. Rarely do you find a person who understands why you foster - unless it's other foster parents.”
