How to become a foster/adoptive parent

Thank you for your interest in foster care and adoption.  Here are the steps you’ll take to begin the process of becoming a licensed foster/adoptive parent:

1. Read the Information Packet. You can download a PDF, request a copy, or read each section online.

2. Contact the Utah Foster Care Foundation office nearest you to schedule an initial consultation. You may also call 1-877-505-KIDS or complete the initial contact form online.

3. Schedule an initial consultation, at
your convenience. This is simply a meeting between you and a foster family recruiter to learn more about becoming a foster/adoptive parent and discuss your readiness to begin the training and licensing process.

Not quite ready to foster?

If you're not sure you're ready to be a licensed foster/adoptive parent, there are still many ways you can help out. You can volunteer to work with a Cluster Support Group or in our office, provide respite care, be a peer parent, or donate to the Utah Foster Care Foundation. Learn more about volunteering.
